Restless Legs
Restless leg
syndrome or nocturnal myoclonus is a condition of involuntary jerking of the
legs during sleep. Often the more active a person is during the day the
more severe the symptoms are at night. Leg pains and cramps, especially in the
calves or an intense feeling of restlessness in the legs are symptomatic of this
condition. Leg pain and restlessness can be blocked out during the day by
all the other sensory bombardments from the eyes, ears, and muscles. Once
the lights are turned off, the person lays down and tunes out the noise in
preparation for sleep, they can become unsuspecting partners in this stressful
condition. This condition can become part of a person's sleep problem and
should be addressed with the treating physician. With proper diagnosis
dopamine type medications may be prescribed which are beneficial for symptom
relief.
